Fields in unpublished campaigns can be updated at any time without repercussions. Just remember, when you select a template within a campaign workflow it makes a copy of the original stored under Templates > Email.
Fields in published campaigns can be updated by adding new options to multiple choice style fields like checkbox or dropdown options. Fields can be reordered within the campaign, titles edited and entire new fields added.
If a field needs to be removed from a form, to avoid data loss, do not delete the field. Instead do the following: Templates > Form/Survey > update the template with the changes required > go into the campaign workflow > unlock the campaign via Manage > Edit Workflow if needed > re select the updated template within the workflow.
This method will allow you to deleted fields and field options without losing any data already submitted against the form or survey.
